Hypertension: A Disease of Tensions!

Once you cross forty, you start getting worried about the various diseases that affect at or after this age. Many a times, you may succumb to hypertension due to excess stress and strains of your day to day life. If you do not have a strong family history of hypertension, you can definitely control your high blood pressure with your change in lifestyle alone. Hypertension can be classified in to two categories- primary and secondary. Primary hypertension is one who cause cannot be diagnosed but leads to an increase in blood pressure. Secondary hypertension occurs as a result of other diseases such as tumours or a kidney failure. Hypertension is one of the very bad diseases to have as it increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and heart failure.

Symptoms of hypertension can be as varied as dizziness, fatigues, transient insomnia, facial flushing, headaches or difficulties in sleeping. Most often it is diagnosed during routine medical check-ups. If you have succumbed to malignant hypertension then you might have your vision blurred and end organ damages. Hypertension in itself is not so much of a worry but it can damage other organs like the eye retina or the renal organs, considerably.

Hypertension per say, is a disorder that leads to end organ damage if not treated in time. Some people may not have any symptoms of hypertension but may just be diagnosed of hypertension during routine check ups. These patients tend to skip tablets because they feel they are all right! This is very dangerous. Moreover, it has been proved that people, who take hypertension pills haphazardly, start with cerebral atrophy at an earlier stage and develop memory problems. So, better take care of your lifestyle as well as your treatment regimen!

Certain modifications in your lifestyle can help you to keep a check on you dealing with hypertension problems. Try reducing the intake of sodium ion in your meals. You should also try and keep a check on your weight and follow exercising and meditation schedules. Discontinuation of tobacco intake is a must if you want to tab your increasing hypertension problem.

Hypertension is not the best of diseases to have- but the rest are not good either. So, do not take undue tensions of your disease. Rather, follow the prescription religiously and stick to the restrictions as much as possible. If you follow these protocols, there is no reason why you should not live as long as the others and enjoy life to the fullest!
