Why Teak Chairs Are Ideal For Outdoors Use

If you pose the question as to what type of chairs would be most ideal for outdoors use to someone who is truly knowledgeable in furniture matters, chances are that teak chairs would be mentioned prominently. Indeed, we tend to see a situation where majority of the people who purchase the chairs made from teak do so with an intention to make use of them in outdoor settings. A common example of such settings is the garden setting: where teak items tend to be found in most gardens of the people who can afford the (sometimes relatively hefty) price they come at.

Now the question is bound to come up, as to what makes teak chairs so ideal for outdoors use.

And as it turns out, there are several features that make the chairs made from teak ideal for outdoors use. The most important of those, however, is teak’s ability to withstand the elements. The term ‘elements’ is used in this context to refer to natural phenomena that would be expected have a ruinous effect on furniture items. One of those is moisture. When furniture items are placed in an outdoors setting, they remain exposed to all forms of precipitation: whether that be by rainfall or snow. Granted, the furniture may be sheltered in some way, but droplets of precipitation still reach it. And then again, not all people shelter their outdoors furniture, seeing that it is actually meant to accommodate people who happen to be in pursuit of the outdoors fresh air. That would then leave the chairs, during times of precipitation (rain or snow), fully exposed.

Another natural element that would tend to have a ruinous effect on furniture is extreme sunlight. The effect of this tends to manifest in the long term. But it can often turn out to be a much more adverse effect than even that of precipitation. Long-term exposure to sunlight usually has the effect of weakening furniture items, and often making them develop unsightly cracks. Granted, again, some people shelter their outdoors furniture from sunshine. But fully sheltering would be impossible (as, in that case, the furniture would be indoors). The way the sheltering is set up tends to be such that as the sun ‘moves’ the furniture items are exposed to direct sunlight at certain points of the day. And then again, the point in putting up outdoors furniture is usually to provide accommodation for people in search of fresh air and sunlight, which is why most of us don’t see the point in sheltering such furniture at all.

What we gather from the foregoing discussion is that furniture items for use in the outdoor setting have to be made from woods that can withstand long-term exposure to the elements. And that is precisely what makes teak chairs ideal for that function. Teak, the wood from which such chairs are made, is one that offers little room for moisture penetration, as it is so hardy. It is also one that can withstand long term exposure to extreme sunlight without weakening or developing unsightly cracks; hence the allure of the said teak chairs.

teak garden furniture is not only about teak tables and accessories but also the placement of teak chairs at the right places.
